The Northern Counties Golf Union report that almost 160 players from the UK and Ireland, the USA and South Africa, submitted entries for the 117 places in the event. The ballot was at handicaps of 0.0.
The NCGU say that 28 counties from England, plus those from Wales, Scotland and Ireland will have top players in view and will, they say, be sure to be captivated by the renowned Alwoodley course. Indeed, there are 20 of the top 30 players registered in their order of merit by England Golf.
The reigning champion is Adam Chapman from Carus Green GC in Cumbria. He has won the championship for the last 2 years and will be keen to keep his title at the new venue of Alwoodley.
All in all, concludes the NCGU, this should be a stunning championship.
